2011 CtG

This years cycle from Malahide to Glendalough (via City Centre, Dundrum, Murray’s house in Leopardstown, Kilternan, The Powerscourt Arms Country House in Enniskerry, The Coach House in Roundwood & Lynhams of Laragh) started on Friday 17th of June 2011.  This year we had Murray Ahern, David Sheehan, John Doyle, Eoghan Stuart & Michael Callan cycling to Glendalough, Co.Wicklow and thankfully we all made it in one piece.

Murray however got the only puncture of the day, about a minutes cycle from the Hostel.  This shouldn’t have been a problem as I brought two spare tubes, however, on closer inspection, one of them had a cut in it and the other exploded.  John Doyle then very kindly offered me his spare tube but low and behold that had a cut in it as well.  Finally, when it looked like I was destined to be getting a lift home, Eoghan produced his 1983 puncture repair kit and after a number of attempts John Doyle’s persistance got my tub repaired and it had enough air to get me home.  Many thanks to Eoghan and John for your persistance and highly impressive patience.

I would like to thank my Father Maurice Ahern, Mr & Mrs Doyle and Yvonne for waving us off from Seapark.  This year we had rainy conditions from Malahide to Enniskerry but thankfully the sun came out after lunch and we had perfect conditions for the rest of the journey to Glendalough.  As with last year, we enjoyed some local cuisine and minerals and then threw in a three hour hike around the lakes on the Saturday and cooled off in a resevoir near our hostel.

I would like to thank my friends for continuing to support this enjoyable occasion and hopefully we will do it again next year.
